Fishbone Wines

FISHBONE WINES CELLAR DOOR & JAPANESE RESTAURANT is a boutique winery located in Wilyabrup on Harmans Mill Road opposite the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. The unique combination of a cellar door and Japanese cuisine gave inspiration to the coastal vibe which Organics Horticultural Services established throughout the grounds.

Owner Kevin Sorgionvanni of Fishbone Wines was recommended Sharney and Organics Horticultural Services when he was establishing his winery in 2014. On first arrival, Sharney was greeted with a cleared patch of a dirt on the gently sloping topography bounded by the Wilyabrup Brook. At the time, Fishbone Wines was halfway through completion of the building which would soon become home to tastings of their award-winning wines and the Japanese inspired restaurant.

Kevin and Sharney spoke about how Kevin wanted the landscaping to look and feel. Kevin’s vision included large lawn areas for his patrons to enjoy leisurely days. He was also seeking an abundance of Pigface and Chalk Stick plants; with the stunning pink, blue and green hues that were reminiscent of his childhood. Kevin was seeking a low maintenance stripped-back space, much like the fish-bone symbol synonymous with their brand.

To complement Kevin’s vision, Organics Horticultural Services also installed xanthorrhoeas (grass trees) and a feature plot of large granite boulders. Allowing for the low maintenance approach, Organics Horticultural Services used a crushed quartz mulch throughout the plot. As desired, the grounds have aged beautifully, delivering a stunning low maintenance space with a native coastal effect. The Pigface has thrived in this environment due to its hardy nature and salt resistance and has spread beautifully to take their place amongst the grass trees.
